DID YOU KNOW… Vietnam War protesters inspired Earth Day? Wisconsin Senator Gaylor Nelson started it in 1970, after he noticed people protesting the war, but not putting any pressure on government about the damage being done to the planet via contaminants like oil spills, pesticides, and deadly smog. The date for Earth Day was chosen to appeal to college students? April 22nd was intentionally chosen to attract more college students, who were know for being politically active during that era of protest. The date fell between spring break and final exams. The Earth Day theme changes each year? The theme for Earth Day 2021 is Restore Our Earth, which is intended to be a reminder that while we WANT to protect our plant, we all also NEED a healthy Earth to support our lives, health, and survival. *Laker Sports* The baseball and softball teams host Walkerville.
