Important dates coming up – September 20th – PICTURE DAY; September 23rd – MOBILE DENTIST. DID YOU KNOW… One of President John Tyler’s grandsons is still alive today! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? Follow this – President Tyler, the 10th US president, born in 1790, was 63 when his son, Lyon Tyler, was born in 1853. Lyon was 75 when his son, Harrison Tyler, was born in 1928. The President’s grandson is now 92. Lyon’s other son, Lyon Jr., passed away in 2020 at the age of 95. The Tyler family still maintains the President’s home, Sherwood Forest Plantation in Virginia. MIND BLOWN! The tallest man ever recorded was Robert Wadlow (1918-1940). He was 8 feet and 11 inches tall and wore size 37 shoes. He also has a connection to Manistee – on July 4, 1940, he made a professional appearance at the Manistee Forest Festival. A faulty brace irritated his ankle, leading to an infection. He was treated with a blood transfusion and surgery, but his condition worsened and he died in his sleep on July 15th. Stop by the Snyder’s Shoe Store to check out one of his shoes and a life-size cut out figure of Robert. *Laker Sports* The Varsity volleyball team lost to Marion last night 25-23, 18-25, 18-25, and 20-25. Makayla Omar had 9 aces and 4 kills, Riley Kilbourn had 6 aces and 4 kills, Taylor Merrill had 2 aces and 6 assists, and Marisa Green had 2 aces. The middle school volleyball team had a great season opener winning 4 out of 5 games to win the match. All of the players had ace serves and were able to return the ball with several kills. Congratulations to the 6th grader, Calista Avalos, on playing her first-ever volleyball game. The Varsity football team hosts Marion. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The middle school and high school cross country teams travel to Buckley tomorrow. Running begins at 10:00 a.m.; the bus leaves at 8:00 a.m. Middle and high school students – don’t forget to sign up for WMD League Fishing Club. First day of competition is Sunday, September 19th.
