Today, Solveig is celebrating Norway’s Independence Day from Sweden. More formally, today is the day they celebrate getting their constitution. Much like our Independence Day, Norwegians spend the day going to parades, eating special cakes, and wearing their national colors or traditional clothing called a Bunad. Today is also a day of celebration in Lu’s region of Spain, Galicia. Galicia is in the northwest part of Spain and it has its own language (Galician–which is similar to a mix of Portuguese and Spanish) and Celtic culture that is similar to that of Ireland. Today is a celebration of Galician Literature, and Galicians spend their day also going to parades, concerts, and listening to famous Galician books, poems, and literature. Galicians celebrate this day because they are thankful they are not oppressed, and they can have their own language and culture.
