This is Start with Hello Week, a national week to remember that everyone is important and part of our Laker Family. Remember to say hello to at least two people that you don’t normally talk to today. The 2019 yearbooks are available for purchase; cost is $40. Students will sell books during lunch today and tomorrow. After Tuesday please see Ms. Jonson. Volunteer opportunities are now available for students in grades 7-12! This month’s volunteer opportunities are serving food at the community dinner, helping clean up the village, and the scrap tire event. Volunteering is not only fun, but it will build your resume for when you apply for college, scholarships, NHS application, or even jobs – it’s a win-win! Sign up sheets and information are on the high school bulletin board. The rep from Northwestern Michigan College will be stopping by tomorrow at 11:40 a.m. *Laker Sports* The football team lost to Marion on Friday. The JV volleyball team lost to Mesick 5-25 and 14-25, MCE 17-25 and 13-25, and MCC 12-25 and 9-25 at Saturday’s tournament. Conzuelo Magana Garcia had 3 aces, Megan Gydesen and Riley Brown each had 2 aces, and Destiny Edson had 2 digs. The middle school cross country team competed at Evart Saturday. The girl’s team finished in 5th place led by Jocelyn Teter’s 15th place finish. The boy’s team came in 4th with Kaden Forward taking 2nd place at the meet. The middle school volleyball team split with Buckley 21-17 and 18-21 and Brethren 21-15 and 15-21 and lost to Ludington 11-21 and 18-21. Lily Artman and Maggie Evans each had 10 points, Kara Smith and Juliet Austin each had 9 points, Desiree Evans, Kylie Blattner, and Lanessa Ware each had 6 points, and Olivia Buckner had 5 points. The middle school volleyball team travels to MCC. Game time is 5:30 p.m.; the bus leaves at 4:00 p.m. Friday is the last day to purchase your Student Athletic Pass for the reduced price of $20.
